Alden Hebron School District 19 Board of Education met Aug. 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

President Norton called the regular meeting of the Board of Education of Alden-Hebron Community Consolidated Unit School District #19 to order at 7:00 p.m.

Roll Call

PRESENT: Mr. Norton, Mr. Winkelman, Mrs. Combs, Mr. Madsen, Mr. Eskridge, Ms. Coulman

ABSENT: Mr. Stauss

ALSO PRESENT: Dr. Debbie Ehlenburg-Superintendent, Tim Hayunga-MS/HS Principal, Tiffany Elswick-ES Principal, Pat Syens-Treasurer, Scott Redden-Buildings & Grounds, Kristen Norton-ELL.

Correspondence

· Note was received from Kristen Norton thanking Dr. Ehlenburg and the BOE members for allowing her to run her 2-week, Volcano-themed Summer School.

· FOIA request on 8/8/17 from Edge Point Contracting Inc. requesting accounting of uncashed checks/warrants and unclaimed funds equaling $1000 or more. This request was satisfied by Mrs. Alfonso, District Bookkeeper on 8/9/17.

· FOIA request on 8/14/17 from SEIU Local 73 requesting a list of all District employees with their hours worked, job title, salary, union affiliation, work contact information. This request has not been satisfied as of this date.

Board Comments

Mr. Winkelman stated that the HS will be having the Green and White games (volleyball and football) this weekend.

Consent Agenda

The following were reviewed under the consent agenda.

*A. Approval of August 1, 2017 Regular Meeting Minutes

*B. Recap of July 2017 Expenditures

*C. Treasurer’s Report for July 2017

*D. Approval of Current Invoices & Payroll

*E. Personnel Report

*F. Resolution Authorizing Klein, Thorpe, & Jenkins, Ltd. to intervene in any Property Tax Appeal Board or County Board of Review cases as necessary to protect the interests of the District.

Mr. Eskridge moved, Mr. Winkelman seconded to approve the consent agenda as presented.

Tiffany Elswick-ES Principal Report-as presented

Tim Hayunga-MS/HS Principal Report-as presented

Mr. Hayunga added that the 6th grade orientation was on Monday, 8/14 and was well-attended.

A MS Meet and Greet was held this afternoon. HS Open House will be Wednesday, 8/16 from 6-8pm.

Dr. Ehlenburg-Superintendent Report-as presented

Finance

Mrs. Syens presented the proposed budget for FY18. A Finance Committee meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, 8/22/17 at 6:00pm in the District Office.

Physical Structures/Maintenance-as presented

Mr. Redden reported that the work on the bleacher boards and the picture frames outside the classrooms have been completed. Mr. Eskridge, Mr. Norton, and Mr. Madsen commended Mr. Redden and his staff on the hard work they’ve accomplished this summer and complimented them on the appearance of the buildings for the beginning of the school year.

Curriculum/Policy

A Policy Committee meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, 9/6/17 at 6:00pm in the District Office.

Staff Comments

Mr. Hayunga commended Ms. Nanci Cazares, MS/HS Secretary and Ms. Jodie Kanaly, PE/Driver’s Ed for putting in extra effort to get ready for the new school year in the unavoidable absence of a few key staff-members.

Dr. Ehlenburg stated that all staff members stepped up to ensure that the District was ready for the new school year. Special thanks extended to Mrs. Michele Alfonso for her hard work preparing items for distribution to the staff on the first day of staff attendance.

Board Comments

Mr. Winkelman announced that new spirit-wear will be available for sale at the HS Open House on Wednesday, 8/16. Mr. Norton wished the Administration and District staff best of luck in the new school year.

Adjournment

Mr. Eskridge moved, Mr. Madsen seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:27 pm.

Motion carried.
