Family members of fallen Illinois National Guard members will now receive a state flag under recently enacted legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Steve Reick (R-Woodstock), according to Reick's website.
HB 2570 amends the Military Code of Illinois to provide the flags.
“These members of our armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom are deserving of the highest respect,” Reick said in a statement. “The simple act of presenting the family with a State flag is a small gesture, but it is one that carries the appreciation and gratitude of the entire State.”

The legislation earned unanimous support in the General Assembly. It was based on a South Carolina law.
