Huntley Area Public Library District Board of Trustees met Oct. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Call to Order: A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Huntley Area Public Library District was held in the Program Room at the Huntley Area Public Library District, 11000 Ruth Road, Huntley, IL 60142 on October 18, 2017. President Threadgill-Smith called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m.

Attendance:

Trustees Present: Chris Budzynski, Sean Cratty, Shannon McKibben, David Moore, David Novalinski, Marjorie Smith and Leslie Threadgill-Smith

Trustees Absent: None

Library Staff Present: Frank Novak, Library Director; Loralei Getty, Business Manager; Pamela Kampwerth, Head of Circulation and Outreach Services; Jo Smolzer, Head of Technical Services

Visitors Present: None

Public Comments: None

Secretary’s Report: Cratty motioned, Novalinski seconded that the Board approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on September 20, 2017 as presented. All Ayes. No Nays. Motion carried.

Financial Reports and Checks: Budzynski motioned, McKibben seconded that the Board approve the checks and financial report for September 2017 as presented. Roll call votes were: Budzynski-Aye, Cratty-Aye; McKibben-Aye; Moore-Aye, Novalinski-Aye, Smith-Aye and Threadgill-Smith-Aye. All Ayes. No Nays. Motion carried.

Monthly Income/Expense Report (Discussion): Trustees reviewed the Income/Expense Report-September 2017 and there were no questions.

Librarian’s Report: Presented by Novak.

Department Head Presentation-Jo Smolzer, Head of Technical Services: Jo has worked at the library for the past 18 years. Prior to working at the Huntley Library, she worked in the library field for 12 years. Jo has a Masters in Library Science degree from Dominican University. As Head of Technical Services, Jo oversees the library’s technical services operations and automation system and manages the Technical Services staff. The Technical Services staff place the selector’s orders, receive, catalog and process the library materials. In addition, the Technical Services staff repair materials for the library’s collection, delete materials from the library system and works with the Head of Public Services on magazines.

A sign-up sheet was passed around for trustees who are available to meet and greet the public attending the Very Merry Huntley event on December 1, 2017. There are three sessions: 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The library is looking for two trustees to attend each session.

Committee Reports:

Policy & Personnel: A meeting will need to be scheduled to discuss the Service Animal Policy and the Library Lawn Use Policy.

Finance: There was no report.

Facilities: There was no report.

Friends’ Liaison: Presented by Kampwerth. The Friends Annual Luncheon is on Friday, October 20 at Boulder Ridge. Four Little Free Libraries are up and running in town. GoFundMe has raised $1,145 in cash and $770 online for purchasing a used minivan for the library. The Holiday Baskets will be on display beginning November 17.

New Business:

Review of Draft Levy Ordinance, Approval of Property Tax Estimate, and Selection of Date for Levy Adoption: Novalinski motioned, Cratty seconded that the Board approve the draft Levy Ordinance reflecting an overall increase of 4.9% over last year’s tax extension for adoption at the November 15, 2017 Regular Board Meeting. Roll call votes were: Budzynski-Aye, Cratty-Aye; McKibben-Aye; Moore-Nay, Novalinski-Aye, Smith-Aye and Threadgill-Smith-Aye. Six Ayes. One Nays. Motion carried.

Special Reserve Fund Plan Ordinance: McKibben motioned, Moore seconded that the Board approve the Special Reserve Fund Plan Ordinance as presented. Roll call votes were: Budzynski-Aye, Cratty-Aye; McKibben-Aye; Moore-Aye, Novalinski-Aye, Smith-Aye and Threadgill-Smith-Aye. All Ayes. No Nays. Motion carried.

Old Business: A Board Retreat is scheduled for December 2, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Novak will determine a location.

Executive Session: There was no Executive Session.

Items from Executive Session for Action: None.

Upcoming Dates: The next Regular Monthly Board Meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Huntley Area Public Library District at 5:30 p.m.
