State Rep. Steven Reick (R-Woodstock) honored the life and death of James Keefe in a recent resolution.
“Communities are known in many ways for their history and festivals,” Reick said at a House floor debate while presenting HR771. “Behind each of those things are a number of people, and many times it is one person who is the motivator of those type of events… . In Woodstock, that was Jim Keefe.”
As a Woodstock resident from 1938 until his death in 2017, Reick said Keefe and his wife, Maryellen, were two of the first to welcome his family to the area in 1980s.

“Jim cut a wide, wide path through the city of Woodstock,” Reick said, adding Keefe's love of history was evident as a member of the McHenry County Civil War Commission Roundtable.
Also a two-time Woodstock City Council member and member of many official boards including the police, fire, hospital and library, Keefe was a recipient of the 2002 Harold Bushkoff Award for Community Service.
“It is the highest award anybody in our town can get for giving of themselves,” Reick said.
