Marengo Community High School District 154 Board met Feb. 26.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the board of Education of District #154 was held at the high school on February 26, 2018.

President Henning called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Present: Henning, Torman, and Volkening.

Administration: Engelbrecht

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Torman to go into executive session meeting to discuss negotiations. Roll Call Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion Carried.

The Board returned to the regular meeting at 7:02 p.m.

Present: Henning, Dujmovich, Torman, Volkening, Ranzino, and Kanaly.

Absent: Signore.

Administration: Engelbrecht, Fink

Guests: Softball Coaches; Arthur J. Gallaher representatives Mike and Jeff.

Press: None

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Kanaly to approve the following amended consent agenda items: the minutes of the February 12, 2018 regular meeting; to not release the executive session minutes of February 12, 2018; to approve the financial obligations of the District as presented; the January treasurer’s report; to accept the John Swanson Trust, American Legion and Franks Family summaries of January 31, 2018; and the update of the Kooi and Pingel Ed. Trust Summaries of January 31, 2018. Roll

Call Vote: 6 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion Carried.

The Board recognized Dwain Nance for being selected as the Illinois State Coach of the Year in softball.

Recognition of State wrestlers was postponed until next board meeting.

The Arthur J. Gallagher & Co representatives gave a presentation to the Board regarding the current insurance policy, and the outlook for the future.

Superintendent Engelbrecht and Principal Fink presented the updates that are being implemented in school safety and security related to drills and procedures.

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Ranzino to approve the Levy abatement of the outstanding bond in the amount of $100,000. Roll Call Vote: 6 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion Carried.

Moved by Kanaly and seconded by Ranzino to advance certified personnel to second, third and fourth year probationary teachers and continued contractual service for the 2018-19 school term. Voice Vote:

Motion Carried.

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Torman to go into executive session at 8:18 p.m. to discuss personnel. Roll Call Vote: 6 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion Carried.

The Board returned to the regular meeting at 8:15 p.m.

Moved by Torman and seconded by Volkening to appoint Anthony Martin to the Board of Education to fill vacancy. Voice Vote: Motion Carried.

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Kanaly to hire Susan Rowley as a long term sub; to hire Taylor Carlson as an unpaid assistant softball coach; and to hire Nathan Wright as the Athletic/Activity Director and Dean of Students starting the 2018-19 school year. Voice Vote: Motion Carried.

Superintendent/Board report:

1. The IASB Spring Dinner Meeting will be on March 1, 2018.

2. Discussed the IASB division news.

3. No Discussion on the School Business Daily newsletters.

4. Discussed Economic Interest Statements

5. Discussed upcoming dates.

There being no other business, Volkening moved the meeting be adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
