McHenry TWP FPD responds to 100 fires in 2017

McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to 514 calls in 2017 - 13 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in McHenry included 100 fires - 45 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 44 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,554,421 in fire loss - or about $15,544 per fire.

The department also received 409 false calls, including eight malicious calls and 401 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Mchenry Township Firefighters Pension Fund, which has three active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $91,239 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,037 for every fire in 2016.
