Village of Algonquin issued the following announcement on June 26.
Organized in November 1963, as a not-for-profit corporation, the McHenry County Historical Society began collecting and preserving its county history.
On July 4, 1976, the Society's Museum in Union, IL officially opened to the public. The comprehensive collection includes several preserved buildings: an 1843 log cabin, an 1895 one-room schoolhouse and a 20th Century modern tourist cabin are open for tours on the museum campus.
Besides operating the museum and local history research library, the Society plaques historic sites and structures, hosts history lectures, makes available traveling exhibits, and arranges a wide variety of school, scout, and other group tours at the museum.
