Marengo-Union Elementary Community School District 165 students suspended 62 times in a single school year

Marengo-Union Elementary Community School District 165 reported 62 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 62 students during the year. That equates to 6.2 percent of the 1,002 students enrolled.

Of the 44 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 39 incidents. There were four incidents of violence without physical injury. For 41 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 18 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 10 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For seven incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
