McHenry Community High School District 156 students suspended 38 times in a single school year

McHenry Community High School District 156 reported 38 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 38 students during the year. That equates to 1.7 percent of the 2,227 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes five incidents. There were two incidents of tobacco. For seven incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 31 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence that caused physical injury. The category includes 15 incidents. There were 15 incidents of drugs. For 20 incidents, students were suspended for 5-10 days.
