Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
A Goodwill Northern Illinois donation attendant in the Huntley location was sorting donations when he came across a bank envelope containing $2,300 tucked away in a donated hat box.
The donation attendant immediately took the envelope to a manager where she quickly jumped into action to return the mistaken donation.
Using a store security camera, the manager identified the box being unloaded in the donation area, noted the make and model of the car and zoomed in on the license plate number. She then called police hoping to track the car.
Based on the information provided, the police were able to find the car’s owner and Goodwill was able to return the $2,300 to the customer.
