Diabetes test

McHenry County issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.

McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) is offering a no-cost Type 2 Diabetes Prevention program starting in mid-January. To find out if this class would be right for you, attend an overview session on Monday, December 17th 5:00 pm, Thursday, December 27th 5:00 pm or Thursday, January 3rd 5:00 pm. The class will meet on Tuesdays or Thursdays at McHenry County Department of Health, 2200 N Seminary Ave., Woodstock IL. Registration for both the overview session and the class is available online at www.mcdh.info. You may also call Carol Waggoner, R.N., at 815-334-4580 for more information or to register. Class size is limited.

Carol Waggoner, a Registered Nurse Health Educator for the MCDH Community Health Program, received lifestyle coach training from the American Association of Diabetes Educators. According to Carol, “The National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) makes it easier for people with prediabetes to participate in affordable, high-quality lifestyle change programs, reducing their risk of type 2 diabetes and improving their overall health. I’m excited to teach this class, which follows the CDC curriculum and is founded on research, in our County.”

Based on a model developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this class is designed specifically to help prevent type 2 diabetes. The NDPP is designed for people who have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes, but who do not already have the condition.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please register at www.mcdh.info. For more information about the class call Carol Waggoner at 815-334-4580. To find out more about the National Diabetes Prevention Program, visit the CDC at www.cdc.gov and search “diabetes prevention”.
