CRYSTAL LAKE PARK DISTRICT: 2018 Property Tax Ordinance on Agenda for December 13 Board Meeting

Tax

Crystal Lake Park District issued the following announcement on Dec. 2.

The Crystal Lake Park District Board of Commissioners will discuss and vote on the 2018 property tax ordinance at the regular board meeting on December 13, 2018, 6:30 pm at the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office (lower level), 1 E. Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. The 2018 proposed levy amount is $7,580,113.    Thanks to a strong economy and addition of new property to the tax rolls, the District was able to achieve a 4.06% rate reduction from the previous year and the 4th rate decrease in row. This ensures that the tax levy attributable to the Park District remains one of the lowest rates in the area.

Park Districts have a very narrow revenue stream. Property taxes account for about 50 percent of Crystal Lake Park District operations income. Only about 5 percent of a resident’s property tax bill is attributable to the Crystal Lake Park District. With the tax dollars provided, the Crystal Lake Park District offers 42 parks, trails, a lake two beaches and year round recreation programs and events. In addition to the Crystal Lake Park District (5%), other taxing bodies for Crystal Lake residents are:

  • Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 (38%)
  • Community High School District 155 (26%)
  • City of Crystal Lake (10%)
  • McHenry County (9%)
  • McHenry County College (4%)
  • Crystal Lake Public Library (4%)
  • Township (3%)
  • McHenry County Conservation District (2%)
