Rep. Allen Skilicorn (R-East Dundee) was the featured speaker at a “Talking Illinois Taxes” forum in Gurnee. The event, organized by Don J. Wilson, a former Gurnee Village trustee, was nonpartisan and drew about 30 people.

“Illinois has one of the highest overall tax burdens in the country and it’s breaking the backs of taxpayers," Skillicorn said in a press release issued before the event. "Thousands flee every year to low tax states, taking their businesses with them.

"Illinois’ unfunded pension liability is estimated to be anywhere from $150 billion to $250 billion, as rating agencies continue to warn of downgrades to our credit which in barely above junk status. We must implement reforms now.”

Warren Township Assessor Charlie Mullen and Rod Drobinski, an attorney, helped with “making tonight’s event educational and a great starting point for understanding the challenges we face together in Illinois,” Wilson said at the end of the evening.
