PARKS

Public Works Monthly Report: Operations Manager Reese reported that the Fox River Grove Police Department received a call about a parkway tree partially cut by a landscape crew that notched the tree then left the scene. Since windy conditions were forecasted, an emergency contractor had to be called to remove the tree. Operations Manager Reese also reported that gallons of white paint were spilled behind the Village Hall. Public Works staff tried to remove as much paint as possible. The area was then blocked off for the paint to dry. Member Bond drove by Picnic Grove and saw that the American flag needed to be replaced. A few days later, Member Bond saw that the flag had already been replaced. Operations Manager Reese stated he called IDOT for a tree down near Route 22 and Gardner Road to be removed. Operations Manager Reese stated Public Works is just catching up today with all the storm damage from the storm on November 25th.

Playground Colors for Stanger Park: Village President Nunamaker stated that the Village Board thought the approved playground will be a wonderful addition. Operations Manager Reese presented five color schemes: the original color scheme of blue, yellow and teal; option blue, yellow, white (with lime green); option tropic yellow, white & dark green; option white, forest green & blue; option orange, yellow & blue. Operations Manager Reese noted that the original color scheme still showed 2 curvy balance beams and the new color schemes show one curvy and one straight balance beams noting that the straight beam is shorter in length than the curvy beam. Member Spiek asked about a color scheme with red. However, Operations Reese stated that the color red is not a good color choice since it fades the fastest in the sun.

A MOTION was made by Chairperson Sepeczi to select the color scheme for ParKreation playground design with the original color scheme of blue, yellow & teal as presented. Seconded by Member Conway. Roll call vote was taken-Chairperson Sepeczi for the original scheme with teal, Member Bond for lime, Member Conway for the original with teal, Member Figas for orange, Member McLaughlin for original with lime replacing teal, and Member Spiek for original with lime replacing teal. Chairperson Sepeczi asked for votes from those present: Village President Nunamaker voted for orange, Operations Manager Reese for original with teal, and Secretary Jasovic for original with teal. Motion for the original color scheme with teal passed.

Stanger Park Sign: Operations Manager Reese reported that the existing sign is faded and the plaques underneath the sign are from 1994 for organizations that helped build the existing playground which do not apply to the new playground. Operations Manager Reese stated that since a new playground is being installed this would be a good time to change the sign and possibly the name of the playground.

Member Figas stated he would like the Stanger Park name to remain.

OTHER BUSINESS

Ice Rink Update: Member Figas reported the tarps have tears in the corners not under the ice, but will not last another year. Member Figas reported the wooden frame is in good condition. Operations Manager Reese stated that the tarps were used 3 years but expected to last for 5 years at the cost of $2,000. Member Figas stated that Ringers would only shovel the ice rinks if requested by Operations Manager Reese after a significant snowfall. Member Figas is willing to shovel for small snowfall amounts and any remaining snow left on the rinks after Ringers plows the ice rinks.

Parks Fundraiser: Chairperson Sepeczi stated the Parks Commission fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2019 and will be included in the Village calendar.

Holiday Tree Lighting: Village President Nunamaker stated that 2 children fell in the creek although the tree lighting and playground are not located by the creek and that the parents have requested that a barrier be placed along the creek.

Other Business: Member Figas stated this would be his last meeting as a member of the Parks Commission.
