Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 recently issued the following announcement.
In the late fall, a cold weather letter was sent out to inform parents about our winter weather procedures. With the cold weather predicted over the next week or so, we encourage parents to revisit this communication to better understand how weather-related decisions are made. This letter can also be found under the Parents tab on the District 47 website and all school websites; see "Instant Alerts and Weather Notification." Please note that, due to our shared bus transportation service with District 155 high schools, "late starts" are not an option. Reminder: The Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake offers last-minute childcare for snow days and weather-related emergency school closures. See below for their flyer about this program.

Information Concerning Severe Cold from the National Weather Service
Wind-Chill Warning - Take Action!
The National Weather Service issues a wind chill warning for a combination of very cold air and strong winds that will create dangerously low wind chill values. This level of wind chill will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you are in an area with a wind chill warning, avoid going outside during the coldest parts of the day. If you do go outside, dress in layers, cover exposed skin and make sure at least one other person knows your whereabouts. Update them when you arrive safely at your destination. Wind-Chill Watch - Be Prepared
The National Weather Service issues a wind chill watch when there is the potential for a combination of extremely cold air and strong winds to create dangerously low wind chill values. As with a warning, adjust your plans to avoid being outside during the coldest parts of the day. Be sure you dress appropriately and cover exposed skin when venturing outdoors. Wind-Chill Advisory - Be Aware
The National Weather Service issues a wind chill advisory when low wind chill temperatures are expected but will not reach local warning criteria. Extremely cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chill readings. If you must venture outdoors, be sure you dress appropriately and cover exposed skin when venturing outdoors.
