Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 recently issued the following announcement.

D47 food service provider Sodexo is hosting its 4th annual Future Chefs culinary competition on Saturday, March 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hannah Beardsley Middle School (515 E. Crystal Lake Avenue). Free and open to the public, the event is designed to:

• educate students about good nutrition
• help students develop healthy eating habits; and
• inspire students to play an active role in meal preparation

The theme for this year’s competition is “healthy fiesta.” Fourth and fifth grade students are invited to submit recipes (by March 1st) to their teacher for consideration. One winning recipe will be chosen from each school and student finalists will be invited to prepare their dish at the culinary competition on March 16th. Entries will be judged based on originality, ease of preparation, taste, presentation, kid-friendly appeal, and healthfulness. Once judging is complete, a brief awards ceremony will follow. The winner will advance to the regional competition.
