Republican state Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-Crystal Lake) is taking his fight against Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s graduated income tax proposal directly to the people.
The lawmaker is co-hosting a “stop the graduated income tax rally” with the Illinois Opportunity Project beginning at 7 p.m. on April 29 at the Huntley Park District. Skillicorn is slated to be joined by policy experts Adam Schuster of Illinois Policy Institute and Ted Dabrowski of Wirepoints.
“Gov. Pritzker and the Chicago Democrats are at it again: A rain tax hike, property tax hike, gas tax hike, new plastic bag tax, and now a graduated income tax hike,” Skillicorn said in a statement. “Their only plan is to make you pay more. I am hosting this forum so people know the facts behind the graduated income tax push and aren't fooled by the myths. If you are tired of paying some of the highest taxes in the nation to fund one of the most corrupt governments, join us on April 29."
Pritzker’s progressive tax idea recently received a boost after the Illinois Senate Executive Committee voted by better than a 2-1 margin to rid the state of its current constitutional flat-tax protections, thereby setting the stage for the enactment of the constitutional amendment needed for the state to legally adopt a progressive tax system.
