HARVARD COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 50: District 50 Partners with Centegra for Athletic Training

Training

Harvard Community Unit School District 50 issued the following announcement on May 13.

In April, Harvard CUSD 50 hired Centegra Health Systems to provide athletic training through June 30, 2022. The change improves available services to students and delivers substantial financial savings for the district.

“By partnering with Centegra, the district is guaranteed a trainer is always present at events and practices when needed,” Athletic Director Andrew Walters said. “If our assigned trainer is unavailable, Centegra ensures a qualified substitute is onsite to provide care for students.”

The move reduces the cost of maintaining a trainer. “The district is saving approximately $40,000 per year, and over the life of the contract we will save approximately $130,000,” Michael Prombo, the chief financial officer of Harvard CUSD 50, said.

Centegra, part of Northwestern Medicine, also ensures that the trainer is up-to-date on current practices and certifications.

“Athletic trainers are available to provide quality health and injury care for student-athletes both during games and practices. The provision of immediate care to acute injuries may have a significant impact on the reduction of repeated injuries for athletes. Proper evaluation and treatment by an athletic trainer can help ensure that your child is less likely to aggravate an existing injury if the athletic trainer’s directions are followed.”
