Healthinno

McHenry County issued the following announcement on July 8.

In an ongoing effort to provide McHenry County residents with the best possible opportunities to find and sustain recovery from addiction, seventeen individuals from the McHenry County community participated in 40-hour Recovery Coach Training workshops sponsored by the McHenry County Mental Health Board.

Recovery Coaching is a form of strength-based support for people with addictions, or in recovery from alcohol, other drugs, or mental health concerns. The 40-hour workshop prepared participants to become Illinois Credentialing Board Certified Recovery Support Specialists.

“Through ending stigma and providing peer-based community supports, we can bring about change in the way we approach and support recovery,” said Scott Block, Executive Director at the McHenry County Mental Health Board.

Trained Recovery Coaches support the recovery efforts of people who are participating in the A Way Out program, recovery-residence programs, homeless programs, and veterans programs.

Jana Magee from Recovery Support Strategies presented the workshop, a Texas based organization that provides training and consulting services. Magee said that the workshop was a chance for mental health and substance abuse professionals to apply their skills and knowledge to serve many types of client’s and support sustained long-term addiction recovery in McHenry County. “This training prepared participants to effectively support people struggling with, early recovery from, mental health and substance use disorders,” said Magee.
