Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 issued the following announcement on March 6.
With increasing awareness of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the U.S., District 47 administration and health officials continue to monitor reports and follow guidance from the McHenry County Department of Health, the Illinois Department of Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.
The best way to prevent the spread of this illness both at school and at home is to practice good hygiene, monitor symptoms, and keep children at home if they are feeling ill. Besides closely monitoring student absences and following routine cleaning/disinfecting practices in our schools, handwashing will also be encouraged for students when possible throughout the school day. Students will watch a video about proper handwashing techniques created by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and distributed by the Illinois State Board of Education. As families prepare for traveling over spring break, please be aware of the following precautionary federal guidelines the District is following regarding student travel due to the global spread of the coronavirus.
- Any student returning from a location with sustained widespread transmission (Travel Warning of Level 3) should not attend school for 14 days after the return date.
- Absences for this purpose will be excused.
Lastly, as the school district prepares for “what if” scenarios related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we encourage families to do the same, giving thought to childcare plans and/or alternate work plans should their child need to stay home from school due to illness or school closures.
We are committed to keeping you informed about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and working together to prevent the spread of this virus in our homes, schools and community. We will continue to communicate with you via email weekly and post updates to our website.
