Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is encouraging Illinois residents to report any businesses, including any online retailers or individuals, who are price gouging and using the current crisis to take advantage of people.
Ugaste reached out to Illinois residents on his Facebook site asking them to file price gouging complaints with the state’s Attorney General’s office if they have encountered any instances. There have been several reports throughout the state which Attorney General Kwame Raoul referenced on his website.
Among those items were a 2-liter bottle of hand sanitizer for $250 on Craigslist and facemasks for $40 and $50 on eBay. Raoul even indicated his office contacted eBay after receiving a complain about a seller listing a package of toilet paper for sale for $49,000.
The AG’s office is committed to taking action on reports of price gouging on items it considers critical in view of the pandemic. Those who have been taken advantage of can visit www.IllinoisAttorneyGeneral.gov. The website offers a form to fill out, and documents can also be downloaded with the complaint.
