As gas prices continue to rebound across the United States, the average price of a gallon of gas in Illinois has climbed to $2.13 per gallon as of May 18.
The U.S. crude market started to plummet when the COVID-19 pandemic started across the globe. The largest impact came when the coronavirus hit the U.S. and brought the price per barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude down to a negative $37.63 per barrel. Consequently, gas dropped to $1.88 a gallon in Illinois on April 21.
According to GasBuddy.com, May 18 prices in Illinois ranged from $2.02 per gallon in Rockford to $2.11 in Peoria, $2.18 in Champaign and $2.31 in Chicago.
Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas and Alabama reported the cheapest average gas price in America on May 18, with prices ranging from $1.48 to $1.55 per gallon in those states.
