With Election Day less than two months away and early voting set to kick in much sooner, veteran state Rep. Dan Ugaste is planning a Day of Action he hopes will reingratiate himself with voters.
“We’re hoping to make sure voters know who we are and that they are paying attention to that before early voting starts,” Ugaste told the McHenry Times. “About a third of the voters in the district have requested mail-in ballots. I’m making sure they know that I’m the Republican fighting for lower taxes and to bring more businesses to the district.”
The Sept. 19 planned event will feature Ugaste and other GOP candidates running in Kane County going door to door to speak with voters about the issues now most critical to the community.
Serving in the 65th District since 2019, Ugaste is also hoping to use the moment to further distinguish himself from Democrat rival Martha Paschke.
“My opponent is directly tied to House Speaker Mike Madigan and if she goes to Springfield she will not be allowed to do what she says she wants to do,” Ugaste added. “She’s not only part of the same party but is completely funded by him. She will vote for him to return as speaker again and validate all the rules he wants to put in place. There will be no property tax relief, no ethics reform or any of the other things the people of this district talk about as being most important to them. If you want more of the status quo, my opponent is the perfect person to vote for.”
As he finds most Democrats to be, Ugaste added things are rarely as they appear to be with Paschke.
“The amazing thing about Democrats is they don’t say they are Democrats and hold themselves out to be more conservative than they are,” he said. “A lot of them like to fly under the radar because they know they aren’t in tune with the people.”
