By now, most Illinoisans are aware that local businesses are struggling. Whether they read it on the news or see their favorite restaurant go under, it’s no secret that times are tough.
And unfortunately, lawmakers are letting it happen.
Not only are they failing to help, they’re actually making things worse. Certain Illinois politicians have put the progressive tax amendment on the November election ballot. If passed, the progressive tax would increase state income taxes by a whopping 60 percent for small business owners.
Such a huge tax increase would force small business owners to make difficult choices that would lead to fewer jobs for Illinois workers, slower wage growth and higher costs for families, and less opportunity for our children.
With COVID-19, an economic recession, and further minimum wage hikes heading our way, the progressive tax would utterly destroy the Illinois small business community as we know it and the thousands of jobs that come with it. In order to stop this from happening, we must reject the progressive tax. Please Vote No on Nov. 3.
