Marengo Community High School District 154 issued the following announcement on Feb 18.
The Illinois 5Essentials being administered in the state of Illinois. Teachers, students, and parents across the state of Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in this survey, which is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent/guardian, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness.
The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and increased test score gains. The five indicators that affect and predict school success are outlined as follows: effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction. Research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools strong on at least three of the five essential indicators are 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more essential indicators.
The Illinois School Report Card relies on multiple indicators when measuring student success. One of the indicators, School Climate, requires parent participation in the form of a survey. You can access the Illinois 5Essentials Survey at http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/. The survey can be taken in either English or Spanish and should take less than 10 minutes. It is important that we have as many parents as possible take this survey. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this very important endeavor.
