The Illinois Senate ended its recent session without taking action on a green-energy proposal.
The adjournment came after Senate President Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) and Gov. J.B. Pritzker couldn't reach an agreement on a bill that could be brought before lawmakers.
"The political infighting within the majority party is very telling," Sen. Donald DeWitte (R-West Dundee) wrote in a Facebook post. "And their unyielding support of labor and environmentalists, who happen to be major donors to their political campaigns, is very telling too."
DeWitte added that he was pleased no action was taken.
“I support finding the right path to a cleaner energy future for Illinois in a way that protects the environment, energy consumers, labor, and taxpayers,” DeWitte said. “This shared focus has been missing from these negotiations.”
The proposed energy package introduces a demand for the state to go fully green by the year 2050. The proposal, if passed, would set shut-down dates for coal and natural gas plants.
DeWitte also criticized the majority party for its recent work on the state budget.
“This budget circus is an abject failure of leadership and prudent fiscal management on the part of the Governor and the Democrats who control and run this legislature."
