Long haul: longest wait for Cary inventor’s patents approved in week ending Aug. 21

Patent 7

The longest time between a patent being filed and granted in the week ending Aug. 21 in Cary was 2,259 days, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent application was filed by LORD Corporation for a lead-lag dampers and assemblies for an articulated rotor and methods for operation. It was filed on June 11, 2015 before being approved on Aug. 17, 2021.

Though patents are required for inventions and products, the granting of a patent is not a guarantee for success. Dennis Crouch, co-director of the Center for Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship said roughly 50 percent of patents expire prematurely due to costs.

There were five patents granted for Cary inventors in the week ending Aug. 21.
