MCC, Manufacturing Pathways Consortium Offer Rotational Manufacturing Internships for High School Students this Summer

16

McHenry County College (MCC) and the Manufacturing Pathways Consortium have teamed up to create rotational internships for high school students at McHenry County manufacturers this summer. The internships are open to students ages 16-18 who currently reside in McHenry County.

Interns will work for 29 hours each week over the course of 10 weeks. Students will spend five weeks at one company, then shift to a second company for the remaining five weeks of the program. Participating companies include AFC Materials Group, Alpha Swiss Industries, Berry Global, BTM Industries, Fabrik Molded Plastics, General Kinematics Corporation, Jessup Manufacturing Company, M4 Factory, Phoenix Woodworking Corporation, Remke’s Garage, Scot Forge, Socomec Boltswitch, and TC Industries, Inc.

After completing the internship, participants continuing in high school may be eligible for part-time employment, and recent high school graduates may opt for full-time employment and potential application to MCC’s apprenticeship program.

“This program will allow students to experience first-hand the breadth of high-skilled career opportunities within the manufacturing industry, positively impacting our local talent pipeline for years to come,” said Catherine Jones, Associate Vice President of Workforce Development at MCC. “It’s a great way for students to get both work experience and a well-paying job this summer.”

Funding for the program was provided as part of the Advance McHenry County initiative. The $717,000 award will fund the internship program for three years, employing up to 100 students each summer.

The application deadline is April 15. No previous work experience or training is needed. Safety equipment will be provided by each company with a grant stipend offsetting the cost. As part of the application, students can select their top two employer choices.

MCC is also hosting virtual information sessions about the program on February 21 and March 2, 7, 16, 24, and 29, all at 6 p.m. To apply for the program or register for an information session, visit www.bit.ly/rotational22.
