Village Reminders
Refuse and unkempt properties around the Village

A cluttered yard is more than just unsightly; it can be extremely dangerous for its inhabitants and neighbors.

Untrimmed grass, refuse strewn about, poorly disposed containers and metallic objects lying all around can and will attract rodents of all shapes and sizes. It shouldn't have to be stressed that these rodents could be diseased and deranged.

These metallic objects and containers can also be a safety concern for children and adults.

Any unauthorized accumulation of refuse on any premises is a nuisance and is prohibited

Failure to remove any existing accumulation of refuse within 15 days after notice by the health and welfare department or police officer, shall be deemed a violation of this division. Warnings will be written out to anyone found in violation.

McCullom Lake Police Department follows the McHenry County Ordinance on public nuisances in regards to barking dogs, which states;

§ 8.04.870  PUBLIC NUISANCES.

 K.   Barking Dogs:  No owner or person in the possession, custody or control of a dog, shall allow the dog to bark, whine, or howl continuously for a period longer than 15 minutes, intermittently for a period in excess of two hours, or between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., so as to disturb the peace, quiet or repose, or be audible to another person of ordinary sensibility.

Under no circumstances shall signage be attached to existing signage, street signs, utility poles, traffic signal devices, etc. Any signage attached to existing signage in violation of this article shall be subject to a fine of up to $75.00 per day per violation. All signage shall be removed within 24 hours of the completion of the sale. Signage not removed within that time period shall be subject to a fine of up to $75.00 per day per violation. Each day signage remains posted in violation of this article shall constitute a new violation subject to additional fines.

Garbage Cans

Please remember not to place garbage containers out before 4:00 PM on Mondays before garbage removal, and to have them put away by 11:55 PM  after garbage has been picked up. This ordinance will be police-enforced.

Speed Limit

Please note that 20 mph is the speed limit on all village streets. The McCullom Lake police strictly enforce this law for the safety of our residents. In addition, a stop sign means a complete STOP!

Burning Ordnance

The Village of McCullom Lake has adopted the McHenry County Burning Ordinance, which is much more restrictive than the previous Village ordinance. There is no burning allowed within 100 feet of a habitable structure or 50 feet from a non-inhabitable structure. There is absolutely no burning of leaves, grass clippings or other yard waste. There is no burning of any construction waste, or any material other than campfire logs. Campfires are restricted to a pit not more than three feet across. An adult over 18 must be present at all fires. McHenry Township has a brush drop-off point. You may call 815-385-5605 for further information.

Fireworks

Illegal Fireworks are not allowed in the Village of McCullom Lake. Violators will be ticketed.

Sec. 8-111. - Possession of fireworks.

It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly possess illegal fireworks within the village limits. Any person who knowingly possess illegal fireworks within the village limits shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

The McHenry County Mental Health Board (MCMHB) needs your MCHELP! Funded in part through an anonymous donor supporting the Community Foundation for McHenry County (CFMC), the MCHELP Mobile App launched in October of 2016. Since launching MCHELP, the CFMC and the MCMHB partnered to market MCHELP as a primary tool and resource assisting McHenry County residents in meeting mental health needs. MCMHB is now taking the lead in promoting awareness of this valuable resource. MCHELP allows for anonymous texting with immediate response from a licensed professional, direct connection to the McHenry County Crisis Line, and a link to the MCMHB’s Local Service Directory. As the combined stressors, the global nature of the pandemic, the isolation and social distancing, unemployment, and various other COVID-19 related issues are taking their toll, now more than ever we must emphasize the importance of our mental health. While MCHELP was originally intended for teens in crisis situations, one does not need to be in crisis or a teenager to use the service. The MCMHB encourages the use of MCHELP for anyone with concerns about a friend or loved one and need support in getting them help. Anyone can get quick access to critical and vital McHenry County support by downloading the MCHELP app via Google Play or Apple’s iTunes. Included is a flash drive with promotional materials to help spread the word about MCHELP in any of the following ways: • Post the MCHELP Animation via Website and/or Social Media • Highlight MCHELP on electronic billboards • Feature MCHELP in Newsletters and Communications • Display and Distribute the MCHELP Flyer or Poster • Host and Encourage Download Days/Events • REPEAT! The more we spread the word, the healthier our community! We all play a part in reducing mental health stigma and fostering a recovery ready community.
