The McHenry City Council recently discussed a new apartment complex in the city.

During a Dec. 5 City Council meeting, representatives for the Taylor Place Apartments came to the council for final plan approval and a zoning amendment to become a high-density, multifamily-unit zone. The site is located at 812 N. Mill St., and the plan has gone through the Planning and Zoning Commission, which unanimously approved it. The council has already reviewed the plan before, but there have been a few changes since then.

Jake Victor, the petitioner, attended the meeting to speak to the board about the project. The City Council was concerned about how the development would impact traffic on Crestwood and how they could help improve traffic flow. The project plan already included a no-left-turn rule out of the entrance on Mill Street.

Victor and the council members discussed many different aspects of traffic around the development and how to make solutions. In the end, they decided to have one entrance be an entrance-only and direct all exiting traffic onto Main Street to turn right. With this condition in place, the City Council gave final approval to the site plan.

"We're really excited about the progress that we're making with Taylor Place Apartments and really excited to see it get off the ground," Victor said in the meeting. "The general update for the group is we weren't successful with IDA our first round submitting our application. We have retooled just very slightly, making it more competitive with the state and plan on resubmitting that application in February with a hope of breaking ground in late 2023. That's the general update for the group."
