PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Barnett called the meeting of the Parks Commission to order at 6:32 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Seana Barnett, Members Kelly Nemec, James Brouder, Angie Gunn Other attendees: Operations Manager John Reese, Secretary Greg Schladt, Trustee Kirsten Wall
RESIDENT COMMENTS
None.
APPROVAL OF THE April 5, 2023 MINUTES
A MOTION was made by Member Brouder, seconded by Member Nemec, to approve the April 5, 2023 meeting minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
PUBLIC WORKS MONTHLY REPORT
Operations Manager Reese presented the Public Works Monthly Report for March 2023.
Highlights include:
➤ Completed ice storm cleanup.
➤ Continued removal of the ongoing graffiti in town.
➤ Attended E.P.A. Audit meeting regarding storm water.
➤ Attended McHenry County Natural Hazards Mitigation meeting, to discuss plans regarding tornados, flooding, etc... Participation qualifies the village for any possible grant money that may become available.
➤ Completed fire inspections for all village buildings.
➤ Hydrant flushing.
PARKS CLEANUP DAY UPDATE
Operations Manager Reese reported on Parks Cleanup Day activities:
➤ Mulch was spread at both Picnic Grove and Lions Parks, sand was spread on the volleyball courts at Picnic Grove Park, general trash pickup.
➤ Only 8 volunteers came out to assist. Partly due to poor weather, timing (CGHS prom the night before). To be reviewed for next year, to possibly move the date.
PARKS FUNDRAISER 2023
➤ Event is scheduled for June 23, 2023 at Picnic Grove Park, from 6:30 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.
➤ Member Brouder confirmed the golf cart is ordered, and the invoice has been given to the village to issue a check.
➤ Chairperson Barnett suggested a second prize of $1000 cash. The commission agreed.
➤ Liquor License is on track. Basset certification training has been completed.
➤ Auction paddles from last year are in good shape. No need to order new ones.
➤ SWAG designs from Oakstrong Screen printing were shown. Operations Manager Reese commented "Foxmoor Park" was omitted from the design. Chairperson Barnett will submit the correction.
➤ QR code for the raffle will be active by the time the village newsletter comes out. Member Brouder to order signs with the QR code, to be placed at Lions, Foxmoor, Picnic Grove, and Stanger Parks.
➤ Hi-boy tables are rented from Ed's Rental. Plan is to also rent trough coolers.
➤ For those who order raffle tickets online or through the QR code, actual paper tickets will be given to them at check-in, so they can put them in the drum themselves.
➤ More raffle prizes are needed. Chairperson Barnett and Trustee Kirsten Wall will reach out to local golf courses. Goal is to have 5-7 items for the live auction, to go along with the raffle.
OTHER BUSINESS
➤ Memorial Day Parade is May 29, 2023. Goal is to have the golf cart raffle prize delivered in time to display it in the parade, while handing out fliers with the raffle QR code.
➤ Picnic Grove Bike path is in the flood plain and experiencing flooding/icing near Spring Street, making it unusable. Army Corp of Engineers authorized a 2 inch lift to resolve the issue. The Village Board approved the solution at their May 2 Board Meeting.
➤ Phase 2 of the sidewalk program will include Algonquin Road (hill side), Grove, Millard, Gladys, and South River Streets.
➤ Per Member Brouder, the pylons at both ends of the bike path by ski hill road were removed. Operations Manager Reese will investigate.
➤ Operations Manager Reese stated the Harbor team needs to be contacted, to hold off putting boats in the Marina until after the large tree near the piers is removed.
