Senate Republicans have raised concerns over a new law passed by Democrats in Illinois, with one member warning, “This is How you Steal an Election.” Senator Craig Wilcox expressed his belief that the new law, Senate Bill 2412, is a blatant power grab by Illinois Democrats aimed at protecting their incumbents in the upcoming elections. Wilcox criticized the bill as an attempt to change election rules mid-game, prioritizing control over free and fair elections.
Governor J.B. Pritzker faced criticism for swiftly signing the bill into law without thoroughly reviewing it. Wilcox highlighted the lack of trust in government that can arise from such actions, stating, "It’s no wonder people don’t trust their government."
Senator Craig Wilcox also honored fallen officers at the annual Police Officer Memorial Ceremony in Springfield, where he paid his respects to the families of the fallen and engaged with police officers attending the event.
In response to incidents of suspects fleeing from police, endangering motorists, and cases of domestic violence, Senator Craig Wilcox announced that he is co-sponsoring legislation to increase penalties for fleeing suspects and to strengthen detention standards for domestic abusers. The proposed bills aim to hold offenders accountable and protect victims from further harm.
The proposed legislation is set to be considered before the General Assembly’s adjournment on May 24th, with hopes of addressing these pressing issues.
