Carson J. Maxwell has been sentenced to a total of 12 years in the Department of Corrections for aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery. The first charge stems from an incident that took place on June 26, 2022. On this date, the McHenry Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the area of Thorne Road and River Road in Marengo, Illinois following reports of gunshots. Upon their arrival, deputies spoke with a victim who reported that someone had fired a weapon at him and his vehicle, which was occupied by his wife and two children. Another witness later told deputies that they were with Maxwell on the night of June 26, 2022, and saw him fire a handgun at another vehicle.

The aggravated battery charge originates from an event that occurred on March 28, 2023. On this day, members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department met with a victim who claimed that Maxwell had pursued him after they engaged in a verbal altercation. The victim further alleged that Maxwell struck him in the hand with a metal baseball bat.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally acknowledged the diligent work carried out by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department in investigating these incidents and praised the bravery of the victims for reporting these offenses. Assistant States Attorney Justin T. Neubauer prosecuted these cases.
