On August 30, a federal judge in Rockford ruled that the state's prohibition on carrying concealed weapons on public transportation and in public transportation facilities was unconstitutional. This ruling applies specifically to the four plaintiffs named in the suit, who will now be allowed to carry concealed weapons on CTA and Metra services.
The decision is seen as potentially opening the door for other licensed CCL holders to challenge Illinois's ban on concealed carry on public transit. "I have always been opposed to the prohibition of concealed carry on public transit and view this ruling as a huge victory for lawful gun owners," stated Senator Craig Wilcox.
In related news, Senators Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) and Craig Wilcox will host a Medicare information seminar on September 11. The event aims to help current Medicare enrollees and those approaching eligibility age better understand the federal program. "The federal Medicare system can be tricky to navigate," said Wilcox. Meanwhile, Illinois residents continue facing significant increases in their cost of living. A recent report from Insurify indicates that car insurance rates in Illinois have risen by 46% since 2023. Illinois now ranks among the top five states for year-over-year car insurance increases. Additionally, Illinois ranked fifth nationally for car thefts last year.
These rising costs add further financial strain on families already dealing with increased expenses and tax burdens. According to the report, Illinois remains one of the least tax-friendly states in the nation with some of the highest property taxes.
