FOIA Request to City Of Harvard Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Collected from Retailers on October 25, 2024.
As a part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at McHenry Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Harvard Finance Department. The request, sent on October 25, 2024, seeks detailed information about sales tax collected from retailers in the city since the beginning of the year.
Specifically, we are seeking records that detail the sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures. We are also interested in obtaining data about the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month. Additionally, we have requested for names of each retailer and their respective gross retail sales reported for each month.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization, we have also sought a fee waiver for this request.
We will continue our efforts to gather and report news that matters most to our readers. Please stay tuned for updates regarding this request and other important local government affairs.
