A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Harvard, Illinois on October 30, 2024. The request was made by McHenry Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request sought information regarding all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023 till the date of the request. The specific fields requested for each permit included the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the construction is planned and contractor's name.
In addition to this, McHenry Times also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same details as mentioned above were asked for these active permits as well.
At McHenry Times, we believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
The City Of Harvard has yet to respond to this FOIA request. We look forward to sharing more detailed information once it becomes available.
