State Representative Joe Sosnowski announced a mobile Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) event in Huntley, Illinois, scheduled for January 7. The announcement was made in a Facebook post on December 20, where Sosnowski mentioned that he would be joined by Representative Jeff Keicher and Senator Dave Syverson.
"Following the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we along with Representative Jeff Keicher and Senator Dave Syverson are partnering with the Illinois Secretary of State's Office to host a Mobile DMV event at the Village of Huntley on January 7, 2025," said Sosnowski, according to Facebook. "The event will allow constituents to complete basic driver services needs without having to make a trip to the DMV. Due to capacity limitations, registration is required for all services offered."
In the Facebook post, Sosnowski shared a graphic detailing the services available at the event. Attendees must register to participate but can obtain a REAL ID, renew or correct a driver's license, acquire a new state ID or renew or correct an existing one, register or renew license plate stickers, and sign up for organ and tissue donation. The graphic also noted that drivers' tests would not be administered and emphasized the requirement for registration.

According to the Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) website, individuals who do not possess a U.S. passport and do not visit military bases or use airplanes for domestic travel are not required to have a REAL ID. However, those who fly, visit military bases, or access federal facilities must obtain a REAL ID if they lack a passport or passport card. The SOS website confirms that all driver services facilities are issuing REAL ID cards.
The SOS website outlines different document requirements for identification cards, REAL IDs, or driver's licenses. Each category requires signature verification and proof of residency. For first-time Illinois ID or driver's licenses, one document is needed for each category: signature verification, date of birth, social security number, and residency. For a first-time REAL ID, individuals must present one document proving date of birth and social security number but must show two items to prove residency.
Sosnowski has represented Illinois since being elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 2010. He currently represents the 69th District. His political career began with service on the DeKalb City Council before moving to Rockford and serving as First Ward Alderman from 2005-2010. He is an alumnus of Northern Illinois University according to his official biography.
