U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk said a military appropriations bill he authored that would help fund veterans' care passed the Senate on Nov. 10.
The 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill will see funding for care for veterans increase by $1.1 billion to $6.2 billion, which is over what President Barack Obama requested.
“Today the Senate put our veterans first,” Kirk said. “With $1.1 billion in funding for veterans' care above the president’s request, and special protections for whistleblowers like doctors and nurses who speak up to protect our vets, I am proud we found a bipartisan path forward.”
The bill protects whistleblowers, such as nurses and health care providers, who speak out about wrong doing they notice. The bill will also have reforms to ensure that there is no wasted money on bad projects. It will also fund 38 housing units at Rock Island Arsenal in western Illinois.
