The Lake in the Hills Veterans Memorial Committee celebrated the opening of the Veterans Memorial at Village Hall on Nov. 11.
Veterans Memorial Committee members were joined by Village President Paul Mulcahy and a World War II veteran who spoke at the opening ceremony.
Children from Lincoln Prairie Elementary School showed their patriotism by singing national songs.
The Village Board launched the project to construct the memorial in August 2013. Donations poured in from local organizations, businesses and various individual supporters.
Visitors are invited to purchase commemorative bricks with messages in support of U.S. Veterans. The bricks will continue to be installed until the plaza is complete.
