The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation received an Investing in Illinois award from AT&T this week.
The $1,000 award will fund the 2016 People in Need Forum, which will provide workshops and information to local service organizations.
“There are great nonprofit organizations improving lives in Illinois," AT&T External Affairs Manager Jaci Kator said. "By supporting these organizations, we’re strengthening the communities we serve."
The organization was nominated for the award by state Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry).
AT&T's Investing in Illinois awards provide resources and recognition to organizations and programs that improve the lives of people in local communities. The awards focus particularly on initiatives working on economic growth, education and new technology.
At the award presentation, AT&T highlighted its attempts to work toward these goals through its Digital You platform. Digital You teaches the basics of using smartphones and tablets. It's also the platform for Digital Compass, a free game for sixth-ninth graders that teaches the real-world consequences of online choices.
