The Spring Grove Public Works Committee took up the issue of repairs to the village's wastewater treatment plant at its regular meeting Nov. 18.
The committee discussed a number of repairs to the treatment plant. Committee members priced repainting railings and tanks at $4,600 and agreed to seek bids for a replacing the control panel, which currently issues false alarms. The initial bid the village received was for $39,000, which committee members felt was too expensive.
The committee will take a similar approach to replacing the engine for its crack sealer. Public Works officials originally wanted to buy a new engine, but when estimates came back at $9,325 and $10,970 they decided to keep looking for other engine choices.
The committee then struck a deal with Len Swederski of Swederski Concrete Construction for repair of the Municipal Center's parking lot. Swederski's company originally installed the lot, and though his bid did not come with a warranty, he offered to donate his time and equipment for the sake of maintaining good standing if the village pays for $27,000 to $30,000 in materials. The deal is saving the village approximately $5,000. Repairs will begin sometime in the spring.
