The Johnsburg Village Board discussed the village's 2015 tax levy at its Dec. 1 meeting.
Village trustees also approved tax levies for several special services areas in the village.
Village trustees discussed the overall tax levy which included a recommendation from the Finance Committee to increase the levy through new growth and a consumer price index (CPI) adjustment. However, Trustee John Huemann said that since village residents receive bills directly to their homes for garbage and recycling, there should be a flat levy, which wouldn’t include any new growth or a change in the CPI. Huemann also mentioned that since the city is saving money by billing residents for recycling and garbage that the savings should be passed on to the cost of the police pension.
Trustee Mary Lou Hutchinson said that the funds saved were going to be used for infrastructure projects. Even with the added savings, the village is falling short in funding for infrastructure projects and more revenue is needed, Hutchinson said.
