McCullom Lake board met, discussed snow plowing and construction bids.

The McCullom Lake Village Board discussed construction bids and the recent snowstorm at its Nov. 24 meeting.

The snowstorm dropped 14 inches on the village's streets, and while one driver plowed the streets, another driver is needed as a backup driver.

The village also met with Johnsburg village officials about a snow fence, but more information on the property is needed before installing the fence. Trustee Marilyn  Shepit volunteered to locate the property owner. It was also noted that a fence post was in the berm and it must be removed before a snowmobiler runs into it or someone climbs on it and is injured.

The recent city of McHenry sidewalk project was also discussed. Because people had walked and rode bicycles on the concrete while it was still wet and the lack of drainage pipes, a section of the sidewalk had to be replaced.

The board received the recommendation from Scheflow Engineers to accept the low bid from Abitua Sewer, Water & Plumbing Inc. for a storm sewer project, despite the bid being $40,000 over the amount of the construction grant. Discussion of ways to reduce the $40,000 followed, including suggestions on using trench backfill instead of flowable fill on part of the project. The board decided to table the matter until the next meeting.
