Crystal Lake to vote on Nicor Gas franchising agreement

The Crystal Lake City Council is considering a new franchise agreement with Nicor Gas Co. at its meeting Tuesday.

The Crystal Lake City Council is scheduled to vote on a new franchise agreement with Nicor Gas Co. at the council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The agreement would allow Nicor to continue operating natural gas distribution within the city. The agenda packet states that a Nicor agreement had been implemented in 1958 technically expired in 2007.

The proposed franchising agreement will last 25 years and includes additional benefits such as up to 84,892 free therms and $36,183 in payment for the legal bills shared by the city. There also will be enhanced communication avenues that will allow the city to be aware of changes in the company's capital projects and matters regarding right of way usage.
