Village of Algonquin honors 2015 business award winners

The Economic Development Commission of Algonquin has announced the winners of its annual business awards for 2015.

The Economic Development Commission of Algonquin has announced the winners of its annual business awards for 2015.

The Village of Algonquin Economic Development Commission announced the winners of its annual business awards for 2015 this week.

A total of four awards were announced, consisting of recognition for businesses and organizations that facilitate the village environment or provide services for education and other areas. This award year marks the 16th time businesses and organizations have been recognized by the village.

The Community Economic Impact Award will be awarded to Gander Mountain for its work in building a new store in the village that currently supports approximately 60 jobs in the village. Another impact award will be given to Goodwill Industries for its services as both a retail store location and a place to donate used items. The company is recognized for providing employment opportunities to those with disabilities.

The 2015 Rehabilitation Award will be given to the Congregational Church of Algonquin for its renovation efforts. The announcement states that approximately $160,000 has been put toward renovating historic portions of the building, standing as an example for other businesses in the area considering renovation or repair projects. The Business Improvement Award will be granted to the Shining Stars Learning Center for its work in educating children through technology and skill development courses.

The named recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony taking place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the William J. Ganek Municipal Center Board Room.
