The Woodstock Police Department issued a school threat assessment last week following an incident at Woodstock High School.

The department said a student had received a text message from a former student that referenced a threat against the school. The student informed his parents and they notified police Wednesday evening.

Woodstock detectives visited the home of the former student and his parents and a threat assessment was carried out. It was determined to be a noncredible threat and the former student sent the message in an attempt to get the current student to stay home so that the two could spend time together. Detectives issued a warning to the former student.

The message had referred to the possibility of a violent act at the school on the following day. Due to the lack of credibility, normal operations were carried out at the school. The department said that precaution was taken at the school with additional patrol officers on the grounds in addition to the Woodstock High School Resource Officer.
