The Woodstock Cultural and Social Awareness Commission will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday in City Hall to discuss the state's New Americans Initiative and other matters.
The initiative, formed out of a partnership between the state and the Illinous Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), offers free assistance to those wishing to become U.S. citizens. The program will be able to provide individuals with information that includes eligibility requirements, length of the process, the citizenship test and language proficiency requirements. The ICIRR said the program can also issue referrals to attorneys, test materials and financial assistance.
The agenda also states the commission will discuss homelessness in the city, Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) training within the community and Woodstock’s Sister Cities.
QPR training refers to emergency mental health intervention that allows mental health professionals and laypersons to be able to determine warning signs about individuals who may be considering suicide.
