The Crystal Lake City Council approved a permit application from the Crystal Lake Food Pantry during its March 1 meeting.
The pantry had submitted an application for an alternative use permit tp allow it to run its operations at 42 East St. The permit would allow the pantry to relocate to a structure that would better support its activities, including working with other McHenry County pantries and serving as a distribution site.
Two residents expressed traffic concerns, specifically in regard to a planned drive-through area at the pantry. The meeting notes that the building was originally built to support small-scale manufacturing. Crystal Lake Food Pantry President Bill Eich said the new location would be serving as a food bank and would be making deliveries.
After discussing the proposal further, the council decided that the proposed drive-through space should be utilized for parking instead, which would be sufficient to address the traffic concerns.
