McHenry County Administrator Peter Austin said last week that Associate County Administrator of Finance Ralph Sarbaugh was honored as one of the Daily Herald's Chief Financial Officers of the Year at the newspaper's 5th annual reception.
Sarbaugh is responsible for the county budget. Due to his expertise and hard work, he has taken a leadership role in implementing fiscally responsible budgets for the county. His work has kept the county's finances stable through boom and bust economies from the 1990s to the present.
"Within Illinois, there are few counties in a greater financial place than McHenry County," Austin said. "No one is more responsible for this than Ralph Sarbaugh."
Sarbaugh was instrumental in McHenry Country receiving the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2013 and 2014 county budgets. The award recognizes governmental entities and staff that exemplify the highest standards of budgeting.
Sarbaugh, a lifelong resident of McHenry County, took a county position in 1999. Before serving as the associate county administrator of finance, he was the assistant controller.
In addition to the annual budget, Sarbaugh's responsibilities include financial forecasting, reporting and payroll. He is also the county's compliance officer.
