Woodstock native Maura Beattie was one of seven Northern Illinois University cross-country runners who recently were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) Team, according to www.niuhuskies.com.

Beattie, a sophomore, has a 3.916 grade-point average, majoring in English.

Qualification for the Academic Team includes minimums of a 3.2 GPA and participation in at least 50 percent of the program's events. Beattie's best finish of the season was 10th place at the season-opening Illini Challenge on Sept. 2 in Urbana. She was 24th in the Midwest Regional Preview on Oct. 1 in Iowa City.

Other Huskies named to the Academic Team were sophomores Michaela Heit and Ericka Hibser, juniors Kelsey Hildreth and Lorena Martin, senior Carly Pederson and graduate student Alison Olson.

The number of Academic Team honorees this year is the most NIU has ever had in a season, according to www.niuhuskies.com.
